Rebecca Goolsby
Rebecca Goolsby, Ph.D. is a program officer and anthropologist at the Office
of Naval Research. She received her doctorate in cultural anthropology at
the University of Washington in Seattle, where she concentrated on South
East Asia, international development and social change. She was a Fulbright
Scholar to Thailand and taught at West Coast universities for fifteen years
before coming to ONR in 2000. She started the first programs on social
network analysis and computational social science in the Department of
Defense. Her peer-reviewed publications include ethics in social science
research, crisis mapping, and social media in crisis situations, among other
topics. She has participated as a consulting scientist for Exercise 24 and
the Arizona State University Crisis Game.
